Buying gemstones in Chanthaburi (Thailand)
Brokers present their individual gemstones or sets of gems to you or to the assistant.
Observe the merchandise carefully
Take your time to observe the gem under both natural and artificial lights.
Ask the broker or the assistant for the price. Begin negotiation. Usually the asking price is per carat.
It is traditionally expected to make a grimace when the price is announced.
Let the broker gather the merchandise by himself and then take his leave. This is in order to avoid confusion especially if there are a lot of gems on the negotiation table.
The price for gemstones is always given in Thai Baht (THB), to be paid in cash
at the conclusion of the operation. Exchange
rates can be found in Travel information menu.
