Aquamarine extracted and cut in China is entering Chanthaburi gemstone market.
Material seen is of medium color and quite free of inclusions excepted numerous very fine tubes oriented parallel to the c-axis which give this material a slightly cloudy appearance.
Sizes available are mainly below 2 carats for clean stones, bigger material tend to be more cloudy as color gets also stronger.
It seems that the yield recovered from the rough does not have a primordial importance, material seen being of millimeter sizes with all stones seen having a constant pavilion depth.
Some manufacturers complain about China low cost jobs competing Thailand labor while others say much higher yield from rough can be done with Thai higher quality workmanship balancing higher wages.
Brokers say that as aquamarine is not a common stone traded in Chanthaburi, it is profitable for our market to have this new material on offer.
