Generally we see spinel in blue to violet colors, but always with a shade of gray. Another kind of blue spinel, a very nice vivid blue color looking pretty much like kyanite, is entering the market. Some small lots of clean material under 2 carats have been seen.
Brokers said these stones come from Nanyaseik (Nanya) mine in North Myanmar (Burma). This area already produces rubies, pink sapphires and spinels. It seems that all different stones coming from there have apparently something in common, there have a nice crystal, meaning quite free of inclusions.
