Peridot was mined in ancient Egypt on an island in the Red Sea called Zeberget as early as 1500 BC but these deposits are now exhausted.
Burma’s Mogok area produces fine stones. In 1994, a new deposit was found in Pakistan in the Nanga Parbat region on the Pakistan side of Cashmere. This deposit produces fine quality stones.
