Gemstone market in Jaipur faces crisis due to its historical customers like the USA and Europe. Buyers from these countries are overstocked with goods as their customer's purchasing power is shrinking.
New countries like China are now buying in Jaipur. Their buyers are looking for popular material like tourmaline, very much is fashion there, but also for old stock left by historical buyers. This "rejected" material bought, generally for very cheap prices, is recycled in China to make inexpensive and attractive jewelry for local market.
Indian buyers despite of their rising income are buying conservative goods like gold and diamonds but little colored stones except the ones used for astrology. Diamond production, mainly commercial to low grade goods, increase only for the benefit of Surat (Gujarat) manufacturers and Mumbai diamond dealers .
Jaipur with its traditional family size colored gemstones producers is still waiting its turn to get advantage of India economic power. Regardless of this, these small manufacturers show creativity. New shapes like double rose in amethyst, citrine, garnet, etc. are on offer. These manufacturers also invested in cutting machines from Germany, which can give now calibrated lens shape beads. These wonderful new necklaces are now available on the market.
Congratulations to our Manager, Mr. Santosh who just married his third son, Pawan, with Kairen, very sweet lady from Shahpura. Of course the big party was enjoyed by a lot of brokers working on our Jaipur market.
